David Ferragamo is the cannabis chef behind Euphoric Food, a company specializing in tasting menus designed to elevate the standards of cannabis cuisine.
David gives us a glimpse of his life as a cannabis chef:
How did you get into cooking?
I graduated from high school in 2013 and am currently attending Le Cordon Bleu in Massachusetts. I always knew that I had an interest in cooking. Growing up, food was served every night but wasn’t a focal point in my home. It wasn’t until my early teenage years when my best friend and I started experimenting in the kitchen.
How did you transition to cooking with cannabis?
I think the label of a cannabis chef is quite remarkable. It shows an amazing relationship between farm-soul-mind-food that I never expected the general public to understand. The transformation took many years mainly because it was always just a hobby. The transition can be as rocky as you make it, but surrounded by the right people and friends, it will let you flourish.
“If you are not scared and uncomfortable, you are not doing it right.” I live by this motto. Life is beautiful and incredibly rewarding for those who work for what they want.
What makes you different from other cannabis chefs?
Honestly, it’s hard to say what makes me unique with all the culinary cannabis concoctions being made every day. I must say, I do find myself making things I have yet to see in mainstream that I have become fascinated with. I love making jerky, fruit leathers, trail mixes, juices and so on.
Any words of advice for chefs contemplating on getting into this industry?
Do your homework. There is a lot to learn, but you’ll never know if you don’t act. Keep your brain fresh with ideas and try to execute them as many times as you can. Work hard and stay driven.
Thoughts about the future?
In five years’ time, I feel the cannabis industry will have exceeded all expectations. It’s hard to say, but I think cannabis infused restaurants will hands down be very successful.
Cannabis will come a long way until it meets the general comfort, but I know it will happen. This industry is going to keep growing.
